Healing Country: Shining a Spotlight on Rural Wound Care

Norma Marlowe

For patients living in rural areas, finding specialized treatment for non-healing wounds can be a very difficult task. Current estimates show that more than 8 million people have chronic wounds on the lower limbs or feet, putting them at risk of amputation. The five-year mortality rate after amputation can run upwards of 80 percent, so it's important to get early treatment and avoid an ER visit or hospitalization.

Our media team created a video series, Healing Country, to put a spotlight on the need for specialized wound care and hyperbaric medicine programs at community hospitals across the country. With proper treatment focused on limb preservation, patients can live better lives - whether they're in Jeffersonville, Indiana (like the patient in this video) or New York City.
