This month, our Partner Spotlight shines on Amanda Philbrick, RN (pictured, right) and Chelsea Mattner, LVN, two outstanding wound care nurses who were recently named “Employees of the Month” at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, California, part of Keck Medicine of USC. The Employee of the Month Program is a peer-to-peer recognition designed to show appreciation for individuals who demonstrate excellence on the job. 

Amanda and Chelsea were working in the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital wound care clinic one afternoon when a patient developed a sudden and severe gastrointestinal bleed. They took quick action to immediately contain the bleeding, kept all areas cleaned and disinfected, and arranged for emergency transportation to the ER. Most importantly, they continuously comforted and monitored the patient while awaiting transport.

“This was a very traumatic ordeal for the patient, and Amanda and Chelsea showed tremendous compassion while helping the patient avoid what could have become a serious, life-threatening situation,” said Svetlana Carovski, Program Director. “We are very fortunate to have them on our team and we congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.”

Amanda Philbrick has a nursing degree from Brigham Young University and has been a wound care specialist at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital since 2015. Chelsea Mattner attended nursing school at HLPAE in La Puente, California, where she received an award for Outstanding Clinical Performance in 2012. She has been with the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital wound care clinic since 2014.
