National Hospital Week, which runs from May 10-16, gives us the opportunity to express our admiration and gratitude to the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to keep their patients and communities safe. It is sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA), which represents more than 5,000 hospitals and healthcare systems across the country and is a trusted source of information on issues, trends, and healthcare education.
While many of us continue to shelter in place, countless numbers of healthcare workers in local communities are going above and beyond while putting themselves and their families at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every night on the news, we hear stories of incredible bravery and compassion as they help friends, family members and strangers who are fighting to survive.
Healthcare heroes include doctors and nurses, of course, but there are many others who contribute: inpatient and outpatient administrative teams, environmental services staff, maintenance crews, food service workers, volunteers, and hospital management, all working hard to keep our hospitals running safely and efficiently.
We salute all of these amazing people, including those in our wound care programs nationwide, who strive every day to make a difference in the lives of their communities and their patients.
