Covenant HealthCare announced today that it has partnered with Wound Care Advantage to provide full-service management and consulting as it expands its outpatient wound care and hyperbaric medicine program. The Covenant Wound Healing Center services patients from 20 counties across central and northeast Michigan, and there’s a growing need for specialized wound care in the region due to increased diabetes rates.
According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 1 million people in Michigan, or 12.4 percent of the adult population, have diabetes, and 2.7 million more have prediabetes. High levels of blood glucose can impact nerve tissue and cause poor blood flow, making it difficult for wounds to heal – particularly on the lower extremities. If left untreated, patients run the risk of amputation. Recent studies show that the five-year mortality rate after lower-limb amputation ranges from 52 to 80 percent.*
“Diabetes rates are on the rise, especially in our region of the country, and there’s an increased need for outpatient wound care and hyperbaric services,” said Jacqueline Tinnin, Director over the Covenant Wound Healing Center. “We are excited to partner with WCA to meet this need and ensure that our clinicians are well-equipped to provide patients in our region with the extraordinary care they deserve.”
“Covenant HealthCare is one of the most preferred health care providers in central and northeast Michigan, and we’re excited to help bring its wound care program to the next level,” said Mike Comer, CEO of Wound Care Advantage. “Our goal is to maximize operational efficiencies while continuing to honor our mutual commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction.”
